Our story

History of Neon

1898

Neon Discovered

In 1898, British scientists William Ramsay and Morris W. Travers made the groundbreaking discovery of neon, noting the mesmerizing appearance of a vibrant red glow within Geissler tubes.

1904

The First Neon Sign Was Made

Somewhere around 1904, the first neon sign is said to have been made in France. During this time frame, neon production significantly increased to meet the demand for this innovative technology.

1923

Neon Comes to America

Georges Claude, along with his French enterprise Claude Neon, made an indelible mark in the United States, unveiling the allure of neon gas signs. This revelation took place through the sale of two such signs to a Los Angeles Packard car dealership. The visionary Earle C. Anthony secured these distinctive "Packard" signs, each commanding a price of $1,250.

2019

Neon Road was Formed

Neon Road emerged from a passion for automobilia and petroliana, sparked by the purchase of a broken SUNOCO neon sign over 12 years ago. Frustrated by the lack of options for repair, the founder delved into the lost art of neon fabrication. Through tireless hunting and acquiring old signs, a partnership with a skilled neon tube bender was formed in 2017, marking the birth of Neon Road.

Over the following years, the team restored numerous vintage signs, but realizing the finite supply of originals, they transitioned to designing and fabricating their own neon signs from scratch. Drawing upon the founder's fabrication background, they invested in CNC equipment and assembled a talented team. Today, Neon Road pioneers the creation of high-quality, custom neon signs, pushing the boundaries of craftsmanship in the industry.
